Tips for Getting the Most Out of Invisalign Treatment

Starting Invisalign treatment is an exciting step! You decided you’re finished with crooked teeth, and you can’t wait to pick up your first set of Invisalign clear aligners.

Once you start Invisalign treatment, Dr. Holly Baller and the team at Baller Dental & Ortho will support you every step of the way. However, it’s up to you to supervise your day-to-day treatment, and here are a few tips for getting the most out of the process.

Wear Invisalign Aligners at 22 Hours a Day

Patients with crooked, crowded, or gapped teeth appreciate Invisalign treatment because the clear aligners are removable. You can eat your favorite foods and brush and floss easily.

While removable aligners are one of the benefits of Invisalign, it’s not a good idea to take them out for long periods. Remember that every moment your aligners are out of your mouth, you’re not making progress.

Keeping your aligners out for long periods can actually undo the progress you’ve already made and extend your treatment time.

Brush and Floss before You Put Your Aligners Back In

When you take your aligners out for meals, be sure to brush and floss before putting them back in your mouth. This removes plaque and food particles that get trapped under your aligners and lead to bad breath, cavities, and gum disease.

Give Your Invisalign Aligners Some TLC

Your Invisalign aligners need some TLC too. Rinse them when you take them out because plaque and saliva create a breeding ground for odor-causing bacteria.

Don’t drink colored beverages like coffee, colas, or cranberry juice with your aligners because they can absorb the stains. Removing them ensures that they maintain their crystal-clear, invisible appearance.

You should also soak your aligner trays in denture cleaner or Invisalign cleaning crystals once a day while you brush and floss your teeth.
